The primary task of the laboratory for explosion protection ExLAB, as an accredited testing laboratory, is the impartial, repeatable, unambiguous and technically competent determination of certain special characteristics of products. The test results provide the basis for conformity assessment and equipment certification in accordance with the Regulations for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, published in “Official Gazette” Republic of Croatia No. 34/10 (identical to ATEX 95 = EU Directive 94/9/EC), or for the purpose of technical supervision in accordance with the Regulations on minimum health & safety requirements, published in "Official gazette" Republic of Croatia No. 39/06 and No. 106/07 (identical to ATEX 137 = EU Directive 1999/92/EC), and also for the purpose of evaluation of measures for prevention of and protection from explosion.
Laboratory ExLAB is the accepted IECEx Testing Laboratory ExTL, for testing and conformity assessment of equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres, within the international IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme. According to the IECEx rules, this means that the results of conformity assessment and testing carried out in laboratory ExLAB, in accordance with the applicable IEC-standards, are automatically accepted in IECEx member countries and that they provide basis for IECEx certificate and/or national certificate in those countries. In particular, this means that test results provide also a basis for issuing of ATEX certificate in EU by some of Ex Notified Bodies (ExNB).
(Certificate of Acceptance)
In the ExLAB testing is performed in accordance with the requirements of harmonized standards for the applicable types of explosion protection, as well as in accordance with corresponding international IEC standards.

ExLAB also performs tests of the electrostatic properties of non-metallic materials that are used in the construction of Ex-equipment or constructional parts in plants, V-belts and conveyor belts, pipes and pipelines for the transport of flammable media, with regard to prevention of possible ignition of explosive atmospheres due to accumulated static charge.
ExLAB has its own equipment and systems essential to the performance of a variety of tests, which include, but are not limited to:
- explosion tests for “Ex d” equipment
- hydraulic testing with static pressure
- testing the intrinsically safe circuits of “Ex i” equipment in an explosive test mixture
- presurization testing “Ex p”

Since March 2004 ExLAB is a full member of the Association of Croatian Laboratories, CROLAB, Id. No.. CRL-018, more specifically in the test laboratories group abbreviated “KIL”.
ExLAB is organized in accordance with standard HRN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and is accredited by the Croatian Accrediation Agency (HAA) for testing of Ex-equipment and of explosive parameters of flammable gases and dusts. The scope of accreditation is detailed in the Accreditation Certificate No.1120 dated 5th March 2010.
